National Student Financial Aid Scheme
The recent student protests over fees has affected millions of students at universities and tertiary institutions across South Africa.
The 702 Afternoon Drive with Xolani Gwala has been talking about the issues, and now have decided to try and do something about it.
The show’s listeners have shown great interest in helping desperate students who can’t afford their fees, but don’t know how to. The show has decided to join hands with NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) who have the difficult task of distributing government funds to needy students. For their More Than Yourself campaign, the Afternoon Drive will be running the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon 21km to raise funds for NSFAS.
NSFAS currently has about 25 funders that contribute towards the Scheme. The Afternoon Drive on 702 is the first partner to raise funds on behalf of NSFAS through the More Than Yourself campaign.
Fundraise for this Charity
Each year, NSFAS allocates its budget to all 26 public universities and 50 TVET colleges across South Africa as well as NGOs such as UMTHOMBO for student financial aid.
