South Africa is one of the most naturally diverse countries in the world with magnificent landscapes and truly incredible biodiversity. However, it is also one of the most socially disparate nations of the world. We’re rapidly transforming and destroying our natural support systems as we struggle with the challenge of surviving under very tough social and economic circumstances.
Wildlands has the privilege of making an increasingly significant contribution towards balancing this disparity. Wildlands, a leading environmental NPO, aim to underwrite the sustainable development of all South Africans. Central to their work is a focus on “unlocking the potential of the underprivileged” – they have an incredible contribution to make, if they’re only allowed to do so.
All the Wildlands interventions compliment South Africa’s progressive shift to a “Green Economy.” This work is continually being done in partnership with local communities, instilling a sense of local ownership and ensuring sustainability.
Wildlands Conservation Trust has spent years championing a cleaner, greener environment and a sustainable future for all. In 2005 Wildlands and Old Mutual laid the foundations for the innovative “Trees for Life” project. Wildlands’ Trees for Life project educates and nurtures Tree-preneurs (community members).
These Tree-preneurs grow indigenous trees which they barter with Wildlands for food, Jojo tanks, bicycles, education support and even building material. The young trees are then planted in areas in desperate need of reforestation or greening. Wildlands is also dedicated to conserving valuable ecosystems, recycling and protecting endangered species.Fundraise for this Charity
